"My Home Now"

 “This is My Home Now”

Song creates story about how
homelessness can happen to anyone

Howard Page, a retired teacher from Cincinnati, recently shared with Dover Interfaith Mission for Housing (DIMH) his wonderful musical composition titled “This is My Home Now” sang over a slide show by Patti Ramos of gripping photos about life on the streets.

Mr. Page said he hopes his words and music will “raise awareness and change perceptions of people experiencing homelessness.”

URGENT: DISPLACED FAMILIES
NEED ASSISTANCE VIA DONATIONS

The Dover Interfaith Mission for Housing (DIMH) case managers are dealing with an increasing number of displaced families.

Most families are single mothers with children that have been temporarily placed in local motels after an eviction or other inability to remain in their homes.

Can you help -- individuals and your friends, clubs & organizations, businesses & agencies -- by providing large or small gifts of basic household items, especially as suggested on the list to the right? Any contribution is most welcomed and appreciated.

DONATIONS MAY BE DROPPED OFF at the
Dover Interfaith Mission for Housing,
684 Forest Street, Dover, DE 19904 AT ANY TIME.

Items received in the morning between 8:30 and noon means that someone will be able to deliver them the same day. THANK YOU!

TAX DEDUCTION

NEW $300 CHARITABLE GIFT DEDUCTION
AVAILABLE FOR ALL TAXPAYERS IN 2020

One of the many inclusions in the recently passed CARES act is the $300 charitable deduction that "regular" taxpayers can now take on their 2020 tax returns.

The CARES Act, formally known as The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (H.R. 748), was signed into law on March 27, 2020.

A provision of the act allows taxpayers who do not itemize their deductions to make a $300 cash donation to the charity of their choice and claim it on their 2020 taxes. It's a win-win for donors and nonprofits alike.

This adjustment written into the CARES Act is available for cash gifts to public charities only for 2020 only and is limited to $300 per taxpayer ($600 for a married couple).

Previously taxpayers could deduct charitable contributions only if they itemized their personal deductions instead of taking the standard deduction. If you did not itemize, which represents about 90% of taxpayers, you were not eligible for this specific deduction. THAT’S NOW CHANGED for 2020.

This information is based on published reports.
Please consult with an IRS office
or a tax accountant if you should question
or want to ensure your eligibility.

LETTER

A LETTER FROM
DIMH’S JEANINE KLEIMO
TO FRIENDS & SUPPORTERS
OF THE HOMELESS

EXCERPTS from the letter…

"We pray that everyone in our network of concern remains in good health and good spirits…

"All three of our case managers have agreed to continue to work face to face with shelter guests and other homeless clients, as have those who work in the office…

"Many have expressed concern about coming into the shelter to provide meals… We wish to encourage you to drop off food that is prepared at home and that may be heated and served to our guests, or drop-off any take-out food items… The site supervisor on duty in the evening will coordinate any instructions that you might provide with food that is dropped off…

"We greatly appreciate any donations of prepared food or food that can be prepared at the shelter. There is a continuing need for nonperishable bag lunches to distribute to those who still live on the street and who avail themselves of our Resource Center services…

"May the God of all continue to bless all of us with health, strength, and compassion."

SERVE DINNER

PLEASE HELP SERVE DINNER AT DIMH

Can your group, business, department, organization, club, neighborhood, etc. spare an evening to prepare and serve dinner at the Dover Interfaith Mission For Housing (DIMH)?

It’s surprisingly easy to do at relatively small costs for time well spent.

For information, please contact DIMH's Miss Wilma at 302-736-3600 or e-mail: interfaithdover@verizon.net. She can help and advise about how best to arrange a meal for these men. Or, simply call to learn more. (The shelter is located at 684 Forest Street, Dover, DE 19904).

Volunteers serving dinner prepare their dishes at home and/or cook right at the shelter’s large-scale, fully-equipped kitchen. CLICK HERE FOR PHOTOS OF THE DIMH KITCHEN available to those serving dinner. CLICK HERE FOR 20 PHOTOS of the Woodbrook neighborhood serving up their specially prepared meal.
